My new geek: Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro got a new wireless card and hard disk today!

Before I decided to upgrade my Yoga 2 Pro, I did my research (my profession - researcher).  There are quite a lot resources online for free.  A great Youtube video teaches you how to open your Yoga 2 Pro:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqxPdv21_Mk  (This one is a good one, it tells you the trick to pull the back cover of Yoga 2 Pro).  The memory is welded onto the mother-board.  Thus, you can not upgrade.  That's also a good reason for you to get a big memory.  The SSD hard disk can be easily replaced and the wireless card.

Materials and Costs:
(1) New Wireless card - AC type has better performance than the original card.  http://www.amazon.com/7260NGW-Intel%C2%AE-Wireless-AC-802-11ac-Bluetooth/dp/B00GUNZUG0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441077428&sr=8-1&keywords=7260NGW  (I got this from Amazon for $24 - it was shipped from China.  It took over a week to get to me - you can also buy a better one from Microcenter for 45 dollars, http://www.microcenter.com/product/450312/7265_IEEE_80211ac_AC1200_Bluetooth_40_-_Wi-Fi-Bluetooth_Combo_Adapter_for_Desktop_Computer-Notebook)
(2) New hard disk:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TGIVRYU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00  $336.40
(3) Tool:  T4 from http://www.amazon.com/abcGoodefg%C2%AE-Precision-Screwdriver-Extension-Maintenance/dp/B00SGO30AY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1441077786&sr=8-4&keywords=tool+compact+screwdriver  12.99
(4) SSD enclosure: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LRZPNHM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00 for 14.99

Total:  $388.38

Steps:
(1) Clone your hard disk.  Put the (2) new disk into (4) and plug into Yoga 2 Pro.  Then, Download Macrium Reflect software. The free edition will let you clone a Windows 8.1 drive. You can get it here: http://www.macrium.com/pages/downloads.aspx    Clone your boot drive with the Reflect software. It is an easy step process and the software leaves any extra space on your new drive 'unalocated'.  You can check their online document.  Or visit this link:  http://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50081.aspx

(2) Turn off your Yoga 2 Pro. Ground yourself with a static armband. (I disipated stratic by touching a copper water pipe as I was in my basement). Unscrew all the torx screws on the bottom and put them in the box or bowl. See the Youtube video to open your back cover:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqxPdv21_Mk  Don't forget to unplug the battery at the motherboard. Unscrew the one phillips screw holding in the factory SSD. Put in your new SSD and replace the screw.

(3) WIFI card replacement tips can be found in this video too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqxPdv21_Mk

(4) Reconnect the battery. Put the back cover back on the Yoga 2 Pro. Boot up your computer and you should see the familiar screen as on your old SSD. If it booted up OK, screw all the torx screws back in.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!
It went into blue screen and complained that there were boot errors.  Luckily, I have made an USB start-up driver from Macrium Reflect.  When the computer reboot, I pressed "F2" and got into BIOS. I didn't clone my disk successfully and forgot to clone the entire disk instead of one partition.  Thus, I redid that step (1).  Clone the entire disk including winre_drv etc. It worked well. BINGO!

At last, make sure the case fits well.  Now you can screw all the torx screws back in.

Use Disk Manager to deal with the space which is 'unalocated'! Go into Disk Manager and look for that unallocated space and create a 'simple volume' out of it and it will appear.

Summary:
Overall, it is quite easy to upgrade my Yoga 2 Pro.  It takes me less than an hour to do so!  Thus, you can do it on your own (DIY) too!  All the best to your upgrades!
